Overview

Annotations are private notes that only moderators and administrators can view. Use annotations to record information about a user's activity and moderation history.

Add an annotation

To add an annotation:

  1. Open the user's profile.
  2. Select Dashboard.
  3. Under Actions, select annotate.
  4. Enter your note.
  5. Select Submit.

Annotations are stored as plain text and don't support formatting.

View annotations

To view a user's annotations:

  1. Open the user's profile.
  2. Select Dashboard.
  3. Under Quick links, select annotations and suspensions to open the user's history.

The annotation history includes:

  • Date: When the annotation or moderation action occurred.
  • Action: The type of annotation or moderation action.
  • Comment: The annotation text or additional details.
  • IP Address: The IP address associated with the event, where applicable.

Moderator messages and suspensions also appear in the user's history.

When to use annotations

Use annotations to record information about a user's history that moderators and administrators may need to refer to later. For example, use annotations to record:

  • Repeated patterns of behaviour.
  • Ongoing moderation issues.
  • Context about previous moderator actions.
  • Activity that requires future monitoring.

Reserve annotations for moderation purposes. Recognise positive contributions publicly, for example through comments or posts.
