Overview

Accepting an answer indicates which answer best solved your question.

An accepted answer appears with a highlighted checkmark next to it, making it easier for other users to identify which solution worked for the author of the question.

Accepting an answer doesn't necessarily mean it's the only or best answer for everyone. It simply indicates which solution worked for you.

Accept an answer

If an answer best solves your question, click the checkmark next to the answer to accept it.

You don't need to accept the first answer you receive. You can change or remove your accepted answer at any time if another answer better solves your question.

Reputation

Accepting an answer can affect your reputation.

  • If you accept another user's answer, you gain 2 reputation and the author gains 15 reputation.
  • If you accept your own answer, no reputation is awarded. You must wait 48 hours before you can accept your own answer.
