Overview

Voting helps identify high-quality questions, answers, and Articles while rewarding users for valuable contributions through reputation.

As users earn reputation, they gain access to additional privileges that allow them to contribute more to the site.

Why voting matters

Voting helps:

  • Recognize useful questions, answers, and Articles.
  • Help users identify inaccurate or low-quality content.
  • Help users find useful and accurate information.
  • Reward users who consistently contribute valuable content by increasing their reputation.

Upvotes

Use upvotes to recognize questions, answers, and Articles that show research effort and are useful and clear. Upvotes help other users identify valuable content while recognizing the author's contribution.

Downvotes

Use downvotes for questions, answers, and Articles that do not show research effort, are unclear, or are not useful. Downvotes help other users identify content that may need improvement.

Voting and badges

Stack Internal recognizes voting activity with badges.

You can earn badges for activities such as casting your first vote, using all of your allotted votes in a day, and upvoting another user's answer.

To learn more about badges, see What are badges?.
