Use this guide to understand what tags are and how to use them effectively.

What are tags?

Tags describe the main topics of a question or article.

They organize content, make related questions and articles easier to find, and help contributors discover relevant content.

Choose relevant tags

Choose tags that best describe your content.

Use tags to:

• Label content by company department.
• Identify a specific product.
• Identify programming languages.
• Identify projects and subprojects.

Questions can include up to five tags. Articles can include up to four tags.

Use tags effectively

Use existing tags whenever possible to keep similar content grouped together. If no suitable tag exists, create a new tag only when necessary.

Avoid using tags that don't describe your content or repeating tags in the title, as tags already appear with your content.
