Troubleshooting email notifications
Why am I not receiving email notifications from Stack Internal Enterprise?
Verify your email settings by clicking on your avatar (profile picture), then Settings, then Edit Email Settings.
To test your email configuration, click Admin Settings, Email setup, then Test email connection. Stack Overflow sends a test email to your account and displays a communication log between the application and your SMTP server.
For full details on validating and troubleshooting your email setup, see the Configure Email Setup/SMTP Server article.
Stack Internal only sends notification emails for unread For You inbox messages. If you've already read a message on your For You page, the site won't send a notification email for that message.
If the issue persists, contact Stack Overflow Product Support with the error details.
Why are emails from Stack Internal Enterprise going to spam or junk folders?
If emails from Stack Internal Enterprise appear in your spam or junk folder, your company's mailbox rules or security policies may be filtering them. Contact your IT team to check for any rules or policies blocking Stack Internal emails.
If your IT team confirms that mailbox rules and security policies aren’t blocking the emails, contact Stack Overflow Product Support with details from a test email.
Some of my users are complaining about receiving too many emails from our Stack Overflow Internal site. What should I do?
Click Admin Settings, then Email notifications to review and adjust the global email notification settings for your site.
Turn off any of the following to reduce email volume:
- Unread For You inbox notifications
- Tag watching emails
- Enable community digests
- New answers
- Accepted answers
Users can also manage their own email preferences by clicking on their avatar (profile picture), then Account Settings, then Edit Email Settings.
How do I add external recipients to the weekly dashboard report email?
Click Admin Settings, then Email notifications (under the "COMMUNICATIONS" heading). In the "Dashboard report" section, click External subscribers. Enter a valid email address, then click Add.
You can add up to five external recipients. To remove a recipient, click the X button next to their email address.
How do I opt all users out of Stack Overflow research emails site-wide?
To opt out of Stack Overflow research emails site-wide, reach out to Stack Overflow Product Support. Once we update the research emails status, your users will no longer see the Enable research invitations toggle on their Edit email settings page.
Why are my email notifications sent from @stackenterprise.co instead of my company's domain?
By default, Stack Overflow sends email notifications from the @stackenterprise.co domain. To configure email settings to send emails from your own SMTP server instead, click Admin Settings, then Email setup. Turn off Enable stackenterprise.co domain email for notifications.
Read the Configure Email Setup/SMTP Server for additional setup instructions.
Contact your Stack Overflow account representative or Stack Overflow Product Support with any additional questions.
